By FAITH DeAMBROSE TradeWinds Marketplace has been accepting cash donations and will continue to do so until Saturday, January 30. The company will match, dollar for dollar, all donations received. According to TradeWinds co-owner Chuck Lawrence, the community has already donated approximately $5,000, raising $10,000 to date. Those wishing to make a donation can either do it at the register during checkout or at the customer service desk. An evening of music has also been arranged for Saturday, January 30, at the Blue Hill Consolidated School gymnasium. Slated as an evening consisting of salsa dancing, salsa eating (courtesy of Sisters Salsa), and performances by Planet Pan and other local garage bands, this community dance will begin at 7 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting relief efforts in Haiti. On Saturday, February 7, the Hikade family and the staff of Arborvine will donate their time, tips and food to the Haiti relief effort. Join them for a three-course brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with all proceeds going to the Red Cross. The wait staff will also donate any gratuities received. Reservations are recommended and can be made at 374-2119. Susan Keating at Sweet Pea Gardens in Surry is selling balsam fir-filled hearts with all proceeds going to the Red Cross Relief Fund for Haiti. Taking a different approach and helping the earthquake’s smallest victims, Annie LeBlanc, owner of the Blue Hill-based business A Mom Who Knows, is in the process of making and sending 500 hand-sewn infant bibs to the area to benefit the communities’ orphans. A Mom Who Knows has been in business for 30 years and ships its products all over the country. LeBlanc said that she will sending the bibs through an organization called God’s Little Angels, which operates an orphanage in Haiti. The bibs she will be sending are bright yellow, she said, and she hopes the bright and cheerful color will make the children smile in the wake of such a tragedy.
